UPDATE: Just found out that there was a miscommunication somewhere along the line... she's engaged. Not yet married. Pretty sure that doesn't make it any better. Especially when you find out that that man she's marrying is at least 20 years older than she is, and decided that instead of marrying her older sister like originally planned, he wanted her instead.

This may seem empty or overly naive of me to say given I have very little true understanding of the context, but as much as this seems like a death knell, there is still hope that she will remember the strength she found through your presence in her life and use it to forge a future path. It will be harder for her than others, much harder, but it may yet be done.
Hope can be maddening; it challenges us to look beyond our reality as it is and through those imaginings create ways of making the changes we seek. But it gives us something better to dwell on. You have planted a seed of possibility in her which was not there before. If she's as strong as you say she is, she may yet discover ways of making it grow.
